FutureSchools@ Singapore: Heulab’s contribution to achieve seamless and pervasive ICT integration into Singapore schools’ curriculum of engaged learning.
The FutureSchools@Singapore project is an initiative by Ministry of Education to achieve smooth and pervasive ICT integration into schools’ curriculum of engaged learning, to keep Singapore’s education system and programs ahead, in preparing students for the future. Heulab is proud to be part of FutureSchools and to be able to work hand-in-hand with prestigious partners such as Microsoft Singapore, SingTel, Civica, Hewlett Packard, Learning EDvantage, Inchone, Playware Studios etc and a group of schools to pioneer innovative transformation of the education experience in Singapore.
FutureSchools will focus on innovative learning approaches which harness ICT and new school infrastructure designs to bring about more engaged learning for students. Heulab is currently involved in 3 consortia:
a) Civica consortium’s solutions for Jurong Secondary School- proposed an interactive 3D learning environment which supports problem-based learning, encourages students to work collaboratively with peers for problem solving.
b) Hewlett Packard consortium’s proposal for Crescent Girls’ School (CGS) is centered on an integrated physical and virtual learning environment to support integrated curriculum and project-based learning approaches. Allows students to access digital learning sources and tools as well as enables students, teachers, administrators and parents to collaborate in and outside the classroom.
c) Singtel consortium’s solutions for Canberra Primary School- leverages 3D educational games with simulations, interactive digital media and mobile learning applications to support experiential and inquiry-based learning.
HeuCampus is a real-time collaboration tool which enhances virtual communities within an educational institution as well as provides an interactive and fun learning environment for teachers, lecturers and students.
HeuCampus is incorporated in the context of allowing teachers to:
1) Manage virtual classroom environments effectively
2) Effectively share information, ideas and resources electronically with students
3) Acquire real-time feedback of the students’ progress
4) Customize and plan their lessons easily. From students’ perspectives, HeuCampus enables students to obtain real time feedbacks from their peers through Peer Review. Moreover, HeuCampus allows collaboration and interaction between teachers and students and among students to be further extended beyond the walls of classroom. The integration between HeuCampus and solutions proposed by other partners will help to facilitate smooth and pervasive ICT integration into Singapore schools’ curriculum of engaged learning.
