Mr Rakesh Kumar Gupta was honoured 2007 Singapore Indian Young Enterpreneur: A Success story of HeuLab
Heulab’s CEO – Mr Rakesh Kumar Gupta was named Singapore Indian Young Enterpreneur 2007. The annual Award, honoured by Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) and DBS Bank aims to recognise outstanding Indian entrepreneurs and encourage the spirit of enterprise among Indian businesses in Singapore.
Mr. Rakesh Kumar Gupta, who was presented the award by President S R Nathan at the ceremony at the Ritz-Carlton Millenia was stunned.
Interviewed by ExTra (The electronic magazine of Ngee Ann Polytehnic (NP), where he was graduated with Diploma in Computer Studies, Mr Rakesh said “I had looked at the list of nominees before the dinner and all of them, without a doubt, were larger than Heulab. So I had just gone along for a nice dinner and was quite taken aback when I was called up!”.
He recalled, after graduated as a software engineer from National University of Singapore (NUS), he and his classmate Lim Soon Jinn decided to pursue their dreams- start their own software company, instead of choose secure path of working for MNC. With the funding from Economic Development Board (EDB) and their own-raised capital, HeuLab was born in 2002.
“In the first two years, we wanted to dissolve it. Sometimes we could not pay our employees and begged them to stay on an extra month” said Mr Rakesh, as quoted by The Sunday Times. However, despite declining economic and burst in dotcom bubble during that time, the company managed to survive
2004 is a cornerstone for HeuLab’s success story as it is chosen to develop Fun With Construction- a tablet PC-compatible interactive digital web-board which enables students and teachers to use virtual construction tools for Crescent Girl’s School. It is proven to be successful that within less than 2 years, Heulab is recognized as Microsoft’s Best Independent Software Vendor and Gold Certified Partner.
Mr Rakesh and Lim Soon Jinn’s entrepreneurial spirits never stop. They continuously look for opportunities in global market, indicated with the establishment of Australia office and the presence of global clientele from USA, Japan, Taiwan, Middle East and other South East Asia countries.
