QATAR E-SCHOOLBAG PROJECT: AL WAKRA AND OMAR BIN AL-KHATTAB’S BREAKTHROUGH FROM TRADITIONAL SCHOOL BAG ERA.

Al Wakra Independent Preparatory School for Girls
As part of a consortium of independent schools aligned with the Supreme Education Council of Qatar’s education reform initiative, Al Wakra Girls School seeks to prepare students for the future as self-directed life-long learners – using state-of-the-art technology and innovative teaching strategies in an environment where individual learning styles are nurtured and encouraged (in partnership with ictQATAR, Supreme Council of Information & Communication Technology)

Challenge
Driven by the need to apply e-learning in schools, ictQATAR entered into a partnership with Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) to introduce innovative teaching methodologies utilizing advanced technologies – giving rise to the Qatar E-SchoolBag Project. Al Wakra Independent Preparatory School for Girls was selected to pilot the Qatar E-SchoolBag Project, which sought to ease the burden of the traditional school bag – with Tablet PCs allowing students to also take notes via digital inking technology. In an effort to familiarize students with technological platforms to prepare them for the future, there was need for relevant, collaborative learning tools that would allow students and teachers to share (and edit) information electronically – while allowing teachers to customize and add their own materials to tailor lessons according to their students’ needs.

Solutions
HeuLab’s FunPack Series® and HeuCampus were incorporated into the E-SchoolBag package based on their coordinated approach towards e-Learning in context of also allowing teachers to:

1. Effectively share and edit information electronically with their students.
2. Customize and plan their lessons easily.
3. Manage virtual classroom environments effectively
4. Acquire real-time feedback of their students’ progress in and out of the classroom.

The E-SchoolBag package was deployed to the entire seventh grade (200 students) and has subsequently been introduced to other grades annually.

Benefits:
- Increase students’ engagement in learning as a means to enhance creative-thinking.
- Improve efficiency and effectiveness in learning.
- Promotes collaborative efforts not only between the student and teacher, but also among students.
